Family Solicitors Suffolk – Abandoned plans to scrap GCSEs
‘The government has today abandoned plans to scrap GCSEs and replace them with an English Baccalaureate Certificate, which was supposed to be a more rigorous test of ability. The climb-down appears to have happened after a Commons education committee condemned the changes as “too much too fast”. Nevertheless the government is still pressing ahead with reducing the coursework element of GCSES, which has caused such controversy. All these announcements and contra-announcements can only add to pressure on parents when it comes to deciding on an appropriate school for their child. Will schools be adequately prepared for any changes that actually take place and how can parents judge?’
