Amicable divorce – Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin
Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin finally broke the news that a petition for divorce had been filed with the court.
This may have come as a surprise to some, who had seen media photographs that spoke of a continuing good relationship between the couple, despite their ‘conscious uncoupling’ some years ago.
So how have this couple managed to stay friendly during their separation? One suggestion is that Gwyneth and Chris may have dealt with their divorce back to front, by sorting out their financial separation and child arrangements first, leaving the actual issuing of the divorce petition to the end, when some of the heat had gone out of their initial separation.
This can work very well for couples who are committed to achieving a good outcome for all members of the family, without necessarily always putting their own personal interests at the top. Mediation can be a very effective part of this sort of process.
Whatever the method used, undoubtedly Gwyneth and Chris have been advised by skilled and dedicated lawyers, probably members of Resolution, an umbrella organisation for family lawyers committed to achieving settlements by amicable means.
Barker Gotelee’s family lawyers are members of Resolution (resolution.org.uk) and are committed to co-operative and amicable practice.
