Business Solicitors Suffolk – Morrisons to start offering online shopping
Morrisons, the fourth largest supermarket chain in the UK, has agreed a 25 year tie-up with Ocado an online grocer. It is understood that Morrisons will retain its own branding but use Ocado’s technology and distribution network. Morrisons’ chief executive, Dalton Philips, said: “This is a Morrisons website, it’s Morrisons food in a Morrisons van with a Morrisons driver; it’s Morrisons the whole way through. [Ocado] are simply providing the technology and the platform.”
Currently Morrisons is the only one of the big four supermarket chains not to offer online shopping. The deal will allow Morrisons to start grocery deliveries to customers by January 2014. After the announcement Ocado’s share price surged 30%, suggesting both parties will mutually benefit.
