Business Solicitors Suffolk – Rise in house prices

‘The Halifax, one of the UK’s biggest mortgage lenders, has reported a 3.7% rise in house prices for the three months to the end of June compared to the same quarter last year.  It is believed the combination of Government schemes to stimulate the market and increased buyer confidence, are two key reasons behind the increased demand for homes according to the Halifax.

The Halifax bases its annual figures on the average price over a quarter, compared to other providers who analyse on a month to month basis.

The Bank of England’s Economist, Martin Ellis has suggested ‘despite these signs of improvement in the market, the still subdued economic background and weak economic growth are expected to remain significant constraints on housing demands and activity during the second half of 2013’.  This has been supported further by Matthew Pointing, property economist at Capital Economics who is reported to have said that the upwards pressure on prices ‘is likely to fade somewhat’ in the next coming months as it is predicted more homes come onto the market (The Guardian).’
