Care fees cap postponed until 2020
The Care Act 2014 introduced a £72,000 cap on the maximum individuals will be required to pay for the cost of their care. This is subject to various limits and exceptions and we do not anticipate that this will be particularly useful for the vast majority of care home residents.
On the other hand, local authorities (particularly those in London) feared the prospect of this cap, and how they would fund any difference when their finances are already overstretched.
Whilst the new cap was going to come into effect in April 2016, that has now been postponed until April 2020 – to the temporary relief of local authorities.
