Private Client Legal Secretary
Private Client Legal Secretary
As a Legal Secretary within our Private Client Team, you will provide professional, proactive and high-quality secretarial support to a group of fee earners specialising in later life matters and supporting vulnerable clients. You will also play a key role in supporting the wider Private Client Team, helping to ensure the smooth progression of client files and the delivery of an exceptional client service.
Key tasks & Responsibilities
– Provide high-quality administrative support to other secretaries and fee earners as required.
– Prepare legal documents and correspondence with attention to detail.
– Administer filing which will include electronic and paper-based filing in a timely manner to ensure client files are up to date and easily accessible.
– Assist with the opening, closing, storage and retrieval of client files.
– Working with a case management system (SOS).
– Making appointments and arranging meetings.
– Conducting legal research as directed by team members, assisting in case preparation and providing insights on legal matters.
– Assist with the billing processes, time recording and expense claims efficiently and accurately.
– Ensure compliance with professional and regulatory obligations as well as with firm policy.
– Maintain confidentiality and professionalism while dealing with sensitive client information.
– To support the Later Life Team generally to include organisation of files, internal reporting and completion of forms as necessary.
– Liaising with care homes, paying bills, visits to clients on an ad hoc basis as holiday cover.
– Undertake any specific training when required to do so, and overall, to have a positive attitude towards self-development.

– Previous experience in a legal secretarial role is essential.

Criteria for Work Experience Candidates:
- A minimum of 120 UCAS points.
- Must be a university student or graduate who meets our academic requirements and can demonstrate a genuine interest in Barker Gotelee and in pursuing a career in law.
Work Experience at Barker Gotelee:
- Generally, we will offer students up to one week’s worth of work experience.
- Students will be able to gain an insight into the legal profession and observe the day-to-day work of a solicitor.
- We will aim to move students around some of the departments within our firm so that they can learn about different areas of law.
- Students will have the opportunity to engage with our current trainee solicitors.

What are we looking for in an ideal trainee? You’ll need to demonstrate a passion to pursue a legal career, together with strong academic achievement, specifically a minimum 120 UCAS points at A-level (equivalent to BBB), and at least a 2:1 degree. Superior intellect will also be required, with outstanding communication and interpersonal skills. You’ll be extremely well-organised, with a keen eye for detail and be able to convince us that you have the mental agility to keep up with the constantly evolving legal landscape. You’ll also be commercially savvy and comfortable with the financial responsibilities of being a lawyer.
More specifically, we’ll be using the following criteria to assess candidates throughout the recruitment and selection process, which includes the initial CV and covering letter:

What type of firm are we? Barker Gotelee now employ circa 60 people. We have four legal departments. These are Property, Private Client, Business Services and Family. There will be some flexibility about where to spend your time as a trainee. We like to think that we provide legal services of the highest quality and do this in an accessible and friendly manner.
