Family Law Solicitor Ipswich – Official statistics show that the divorce rate has gone up

Official statistics show that the divorce rate has gone up over the last two years. There is speculation that there are more divorces due to recession factors, the financial strain of redundancy and debt being major factors in family breakdown. However there is also speculation that divorce rates go up when it looks like the country is coming out of recession. House prices improve and work prospects increase. People see light at the end of the tunnel financially and feel that they can absorb the cost of divorce more easily.

The government is keen to promote the use of mediation to keep the costs of divorce down. However couples should bear in mind that mediation rarely works without some input from solicitors along the way. Couples coming to mediation would be well advised to take advice from their solicitor prior to mediation sessions so that they know what proposal they want to put forward at the session and can negotiate with confidence.
