Family Solicitors Ipswich – Concern about legal aid cuts
‘Lord Neuberger, UK’s most senior judge, voices legal aid fears’. This was a headline on the BBC News website this week and it reflects the concern in the legal community about cuts in the legal aid budget for family and divorce cases. There are serious worries about the social deprivation that may result from people’s inability to access the legal services they need in order obtain adequate housing and income and this may affect women more than men, given that women are still, very often, the primary carers for children and not in the type of work that generates sufficient income to pay lawyers. Will charities be able to bridge the gap? Only time will tell, but it seems unlikely given the squeeze on charitable funding.
