Family Solicitors Ipswich – Quickie divorce in just 2 minutes

Nicola Furmston

‘Much is made in the press of the two minute pronouncement of decree nisi in relation to the marriage of singer Myleene Klass to her security consultant husband Graham Quinn and the absence of the parties from the court during the pronouncement.  However this misrepresents matters somewhat. Ms Klass and Mr Quinn were not required to come to court to give evidence about the state of their marriage. A statement of evidence in support of the petition would have been submitted and the divorce was not opposed. The judge would have considered the contents of the statement carefully before making the decree nisi and would have had to be convinced that the criteria for the divorce had been met, but if both parties were convinced that divorce was for them what would be the point in putting them through the emotionally distressing process of coming to court to justify themselves.’
