Family Solicitors – Keep your decree absolute safe

‘A woman in Northern Ireland is being prosecuted for producing falsified divorce documents in order to remarry. In England and Wales an original decree absolute bearing the court’s red seal must be produced to the authorities when booking a subsequent marriage. This important document, which is produced at the end of the divorce process must be retained safely as the Court Service will charge to produce another copy.  The decree absolute also bears important information about the impact of divorce on inheritance, in particular how a will made pre-divorce will be interpreted on death and people should take care to read the document carefully, then store it away somewhere safe.’
