Inheritance Tax – compensation for Kindertransport and Windrush

In 2018 the German Government agreed to pay 2500 euros to child survivors of the Kindertransport. UK legislation already provides that certain payments to victims of persecution during WWII are not subject to UK inheritance tax. This legislation is now being extended to those receiving compensation from the Kindertransport fund.

Additionally, the UK Government is introducing new legislation so that payments under the Windrush Compensation Scheme are also free of inheritance tax. That new legislation will also include the facility to make it easier to exempt payments under future compensation schemes, where the Government considers that appropriate.
