Jane is a solicitor specialising in environmental law, within the Litigation and Dispute Resolution Team.
After obtaining a degree in Environmental Science at the University of East Anglia, Jane commenced her career as an environmental consultant, working on multi-faceted environmental management projects such as Legoland Windsor and the Millennium Dome. She has worked extensively in both the public and private sector in the UK and overseas, where she has been involved in environmental and sustainability issues and undertaken environmental compliance audits. During her time as a Project Manager in the Major Projects Team of Brighton & Hove City Council Jane was able to consolidate her project management skills on major regeneration projects and as well gain an in depth appreciation of public consultation and local political processes. Prior to joining Barker Gotelee Jane was involved in environmental management in the energy sector, with particular emphasis on the offshore wind and nuclear sectors, as well as ports and harbours, including Dover Harbour Board and Newhaven Port Authority.
Jane has gained an MSc in Integrated Pollution Management and LLM in Environmental Law which formed the foundation of her legal training. She went on to achieve a distinction in the Post Graduate Diploma at the University of Brighton, followed by a commendation in the Legal Practice Course at BPP University, London.
Jane Haviland is also a member of the EEEGR (East of England Energy Group).
