Family Solicitors Suffolk – Legal aid changes in April
‘The withdrawal of legal aid for family cases in April 2013 is expected to lead to a massive acceleration in the amount of people representing themselves in the family courts. This will significantly decrease the speed with which cases are processed as the Judge increasingly becomes the only person in the room with any legal knowledge. Mediation, which will still be supported by legal aid, is expected to be a suitable alternative for people, allowing parents and couples to remain in control of the process by which they decide the major issues for their lives for the future.’
Nicola Furmston is a family law solicitor at Barker Gotelee, solicitors in Suffolk.
