Mandatory vaccination for care home workers

The requirement that all care home workers should be double vaccinated comes into effect on 11th November 2021.

In order to meet this requirement, care workers would have to have had their first vaccination by 16th September and currently there is concern that a significant minority have failed to do so.

This has given rise to controversy amongst many sectors including care providers and unions.

It has been implemented at a time when there is already a worryingly large number of staff vacancies. Current calculations are that the deficit is 120,000 but some estimate this at nearer 170,000.

If care homes are not able to employ the number of staff required to meet safety requirements, they may well have to close their doors.

This will clearly have negative implications for people looking to enter residential care.

Requiring care is something that can happen at any stage of life. If you need assistance with planning for the future, please contact us.
