The Ministry of Justice has recently published a guide as to the types of case for which legal aid is still available.  Most family law cases that do not involve the local authority are only eligible for legal aid where there has been domestic violence or child abuse and even then there are strict requirements for eligibility.

However legal aid is more readily available for the following cases: For a child under the age of 18 who is a party in a family case; where a child is to be taken into care or a parent wants contact with a child in care; adoption; where a child is to be made a ward of court; where a child has been wrongly removed from the UK or is about to be; or where a domestic violence injunction is required. Other categories of case exist that qualify but these are unusual types of case.

At Barker Gotelee a varied price menu for services is available and the family law team can often find a way to provide help even where a client’s financial resources are limited.
