Personal Solicitors – Northumberland goat farmer fails to overturn gifts of land
‘In 2001, Muriel Brown, a Northumberland goat farmer, entered into a business partnership with William Stephenson. In 2003, she transferred a barn, 3 acres of paddock land and some woodland from her sole name into her and Mr Stephenson’s joint names. In 2005, they transferred the two parcels of land into Mr Stephenson’s sole name.
Mrs Brown alleged that all those gifts were invalid as Mr Stephenson had bullied her into making these.
The Court rejected all her claims of undue influence, ruling that there was no evidence of pressure on Mrs Brown in 2003 or in 2005.’
