Residential care costs increase
NHS Digital recently published the latest statistics in relation to residential care costs for adults in England and Wales which revealed the following:
- Local Authorities received 1.9 million requests for adult social care support from new clients. This is up by 3.8% since 2017/18.
- Local Authority spending on adult social care has increased to 18.7 billion for the period 2018/19, increasing by £807 million since 2017/18.
- The average amount of residential care costs for a person aged 65 and over rose from £604 per week in 2017/18 to £636 per week in 2018/19 while the average cost for the same age band increased from £921 per week on 2017/18 to £976 in 2018/19.
