Sam is a solicitor in our property team developing specialisms in agricultural law and agricultural and commercial property. He grew up and lives in Felixstowe out on the Suffolk Coast.

Sam joined Barker Gotelee in 2015 as a paralegal and later completed his training contract. He qualified as a solicitor in July 2018 having accumulated approximately three years’ of experience primarily in property law.

Sam graduated from the University of Essex with a 2:1 in the LLB Law degree in 2015 and achieved a commendation in the graduate post-diploma Legal Practice Course which he studied in Cambridge.

Sam values the experience he received from a variety of legal practice areas having spent time with a commercial firm in Felixstowe as well as the BT Tower in London and also over a year with two Ipswich based criminal law firms.

Through his time working in property law, Sam has developed particular experience and interest in agricultural law and property including agricultural tenancies, farm business tenancies and contract farming agreements, agricultural land and estate transactions and partnerships. Sam has also been involved in renewable energy projects and residential and commercial development affecting agricultural land. Sam has also acted for businesses in commercial property transactions.

Sam says:

“My focus is on my clients and their ambitions. Land and business owners are facing more and more challenges in today’s fluid economy and we live in a time where we must be very aware of change. I strongly believe that my job is not just done at my desk in the office but out with my clients in their environments where I can better get to know them and their businesses. I strongly believe in building and maintaining lasting relationships with my clients so they know they can trust me and can come to me with any problem, big or small.”

Clients say:

“Sam has been brilliant from start to finish. From the initial meeting to the end result, Sam collated all the evidence that we had to hand and compiled an excellent letter outlining our dispute. Sam corresponded with us at every step and in a timely fashion. We have no doubt that had we not instructed the help of your services we would not have achieved the satisfactory conclusion that we did. “

“Through all of this Sam was intelligent, very knowledgeable, honest, polite and frankly just an all round smashing fellow. I trusted him and hence, Barker Gotelee, completely.”

In his spare time, Sam is a keen golfer and a member of Felixstowe Ferry Golf Club where he has (and is trying to maintain) a handicap of 9.
