Family Solicitors Ipswich – The bleak mid-winter indeed!
‘Last week we reported on some of the reasons why schools close due to bad weather (Snow Stops Play 13-01-2013) and while children may love to have a snow day, parents are not best pleased. It now seems that some people want answers. After a weekend of more snow there were over 1,000 schools across the UK which remained shut on Monday 21st January and, of that figure, 203 were from Suffolk and 219 from Essex.
Now Mr Graham Newman, who is the Suffolk County Councillor responsible for children and young people in our area, is seeking an explanation from head-teachers as to why so many schools remained closed on Monday. Mr Newman pointed out to the local press that one of the priorities for the county’s gritting teams is to make sure that routes to schools were as clear as possible with many teams working through the night. With the majority of people managing to get to and from work, many will eagerly await the head-teachers’ responses as to why schools appear to be different.’
