The Conservative Party makes pre-election promise on inheritance tax

Nick Palmer

Both George Osborne (at the weekend) and David Cameron (last October) have said inheritance tax should only be paid by the very wealthy. George Osborne has said that they will set out their approach closer to the election.

The Conservative Party made similar promises before the last election, although it said it was unable to implement these due to the coalition.

The tax threshold has been £325,000 since 6 April 2009 and receipts from inheritance tax during the last tax year were the highest since 2007/2008.
