Will HMRC exempt emergency workers from inheritance tax?
When you die, inheritance tax may be charged on your estate before it passes to the beneficiaries named in your Will.
As stated in this year’s Budget, the Government is considering an exemption to this tax for any emergency service worker who dies in the line of duty. It already applies to the armed services and may be extended to the police, fire brigade and ambulance services.
The consultation runs until October and the exemption may become law as soon as April 2015.
This is an interesting development, and one which will be popular with the electorate.
