Employment Tribunal Claims
We give advice in plain English. We're here to help.
Things do go wrong and Employment Tribunal claims are sometimes made.
Claims are usually made against the current or former employer. However, an individual can also be named as a Respondent where they are alleged to have committed acts of discrimination.
If you receive a claim (on an ET1) then it is important to act quickly. There are strict deadlines for you to respond. If you do not, then Default Judgement is likely to be entered. This prevents you from defending the claim on its merits, and the only issue to be decided is how much money is going to be awarded.
Employment Tribunal claims have the potential to cause serious and irreparable damage to your reputation. All Employment Tribunal decisions are now published online. These decisions can be read by your current and prospective employees and by your customers and business contacts.
If you do receive a claim, then it can be stressful and time to seek reassuring professional advice. Our Employment Team can help you navigate the process. We shall advise you upon the merits of the claim and whether you should consider fighting, or settling. We shall give you sound and pragmatic advice to achieve the best possible outcome.
