Preparing Employment Contracts
We give advice in plain English. We're here to help.
It is essential to get your employment contracts right, in case problems start or the relationship sours at a later stage.
The contract sets out the legal relationship with your employee. It can be complex and long, with all sorts of restrictions. For example, with restrictions to protect intellectual property, or to prevent competition after employment ends. Alternatively, the contract can be short, covering only matters required by law.
Getting this balance right requires experience, care and precision. There are many legal issues to consider to ensure the contract is enforceable.
A badly worded contract can be an expensive mistake, and might result in a claim in the Employment Tribunal or Civil Courts. Further, if the employee behaves inappropriately, a badly worded contract could undermine your position, and hinder any legal claim you might decide to bring.
We take the time to really get to know your business, consider the risks that you face, and then consider what is actually required in your employment contracts. That will include adapting the contracts to include any specific concerns you may have to protect your business.
If the employment relationship does go wrong, we can advise you on what can be done, and the options that are available. That might include a claim against your employee, if they are in breach of contract.
