Grievance Meetings

We give advice in plain English. We're here to help.

The definition of a grievance is very wide. It is a concern, problem or complaint, raised by an employee. A grievance can be made in relation to matters that are not entirely within your control. For example, about a client or customer relationship, where your employee is working on another employer’s site.

If you receive a grievance, then a failure to follow the ACAS Code of Practice can have serious financial implications: Employment Tribunals have the power to increase any compensation awarded by up to 25%.

Further, a failure to take a grievance seriously and go through the correct procedure, might also lead to an Employment Tribunal claim for discrimination, or constructive unfair dismissal.

If you receive a grievance, then it is important to act quickly. Failure to do so could lead to allegations that there was unreasonable delay.

Our experienced Employment Team is used to advising on a wide range of grievances. For example, allegations of bullying, discrimination, or unfair treatment. We have the experience to help you navigate the process.

We shall take the time to really get to know your business, and understand the grievance that you face. We shall advise on how to conduct a fair investigation, after which, we can advise you upon the merits of the grievance. We shall also advise you how to conduct a meeting with the person who raised the grievance, and how to communicate the grievance outcome.

Should an appeal be raised, we shall advise you how to manage it. We shall give you sound and pragmatic advice, to achieve the best possible outcome.
