Redundancy

We give advice in plain English. We're here to help.

Redundancy, or the possibility of it, can be a very stressful time for you and your family. That is especially the case if you have been employed at the same organisation for a number of years.

Redundancy takes place where there is a business closure, a workplace closure, or a reduction in work.  Occasionally, employers claim inappropriately there is a redundancy situation, when none actually exists.  This might happen when the employer is trying to manage out an employee for a variety of reasons.

Where you have been employed for 2 years or more, there is a process that your employer should follow before making the decision to dismiss. Your employer should also consider whether there are any suitable alternative jobs that you could do.

Where 20 or more employees are made redundant within a period of 90 days, there are additional rules that must be followed.

If you have been warned you might be made redundant, then our Employment Team has experience of advising clients who work in a wide variety of sectors. We shall take the time to really understand your position and consider your objectives. It may well be your employer is not following the correct process, or your dismissal is unfair. Our team shall guide you through the process and help you achieve the best possible outcome.
