National Grief Awareness Week 2025

2nd to 8th December marks National Grief Awareness Week 2025, an annual UK-wide campaign dedicated to increasing understanding of grief, bereavement and the emotional impact of losing a loved one.

The week is organised by the UK charity The Good Grief Trust, which brings together bereavement organisations, charities and support groups to ensure that anyone affected by loss can find the help they need. Their aim it simple but powerful, to ensure that no one has to grieve alone. By sharing resources, offering guidance and encouraging open conversations about death, the charity works to reduce the isolation that often accompanies bereavement.

The focus for this year’s campaign is to encourage employers to consider staff through bereavement, illness and caring responsibilities.

Why National Grief Awareness Week Matters

Grief affects everyone differently. Some people look for practical guidance, others week emotional support, and many simply want reassurance that what they are feeling is normal. National Grief Awareness Week encourages individuals, families and communities to talk openly about grief and to understand that support is available at every stage of the journey.

The campaign highlights:

  • The importance of recognising the signs of grief in ourselves and others
  • The availability of national and local bereavement support services
  • How conversations about loss can reduce stigma and encourage healing
  • The value of planning ahead to ease pressures on loved ones in the future

By raising awareness, the week provides an opportunity to reflect, to share experiences and to connect with support networks that can make a meaningful difference.
